Light and Dark
statement of intent
My chosen theme for my GCSE level photography project is light and dark because I think that this is a good theme because you can take pictures with dramatic lighting and in different places to make the pictures stand out. I think this new project will help me to improve my photography skills, especially setting up the shots and learning how to use the camera on manual in a studio setting.
In order to get good results, I intend to research different photographers in the style that I also aim to achieve. The first person I am going to look at is Richard Otten Wagener because I like the way his work is crisp, clean, simple but beautifully lit. I am going to use his work to inspire my own. I am also going to look at the work of Alex Menschikov because like Wagener his work is simple but I like the way he focuses on shadows to almost create patterns within his work. I might try this technique if I have time.
The photo shoots I intent to complete during my project are close-ups of simple objects and add a contrasting colour to make an impact. I am going to base my work all in a studio location and explore spot lighting to bring out the hard texture and shapes and shadows.
I am going to develop my work further in Photoshop using different layers and filters to refine the images. This project will help me to develop my Photoshop skills further and also my knowledge of using manual settings on the camera. I think my final outcome will be a series of images based around screw heads and pencils with a contrasting colour to make them stand out.
