Statement of Intent
My aim is to produce a portfolio of my work representing my ideas and improvements. The theme that I will be basing my portfolio around is landscapes and by the end of my prep time, I will have chosen my best images which will be shown in a final gallery.
For my first research I will start by looking at a variety of different landscape photography. The photographer that I have decided to look at is Lord Snowden because his photographs are very inspiring and due to this it has motivated me to want to take similar photos to him. The use of different landscapes and sunsets with different lighting has made me want to base my portfolio around these images. I also believe that he uses a wide range of angles when he takes his images, due to this it has encouraged me to go out and explore this.
When I first decided on this theme I thought of beaches, buildings and architecture. After diving deeper into the whole concept of landscapes, I was able to go into much more detail such as sunsets, bridges and skylines in the city. This theme allows you to take a wide range of photographs due to these thoughts of images.
To show my development and progression through my work I will be going to Manchester city centre and take a wide range of images from different levels of the city, capturing my initial ideas. After taking these images, I will develop these on Photoshop and gain different ideas, to help aid my progression on taking better standard of pictures. I have a wide range of ideas on where I can develop this portfolio off work.
During the course of this portfolio I will be experimenting on developing my technique and skills. The camera I will be using is a DSLR camera. I will also be pushing myself to be creative in my use of Photoshop to develop my work.
I have a Year to produce this portfolio of work. I aim to complete my initial research in the first few weeks as this will allow me to show my progression.
As my portfolio progress I will come my images to photographers, this allows my work to develop to a good standard. I will make sure that I reflect on my work and get feedback and advice from my peers in my class and the teacher on how to develop my work further, for the higher grades. I am motivated to push myself to achieve. After my final piece I will evaluate and reflect on the project as a whole and what went well and what did not, by doing this I would be able to see what I might do differently next time.

Content-in my option I can see a nice white house curved by water that is crashing into the the dark mountain
I can see the sun going down but it looks like its going into the see and the sea is just taking it into the water that
is how it looks the clouds are looking like dark delves and that it wants to just do something scary I would say the stairs
are they scary to walk down because if ts a rainy day or a windy day and you are walking down the stairs then you are at risk
your self Because when I say that the stairs are very scary it is scary but when you are coming up the stairs it is worse because
when you are coming up you just get pulled back down and its very tiring to walk up again it most seem easy but its not

composition - Peron who has taken this image has done good because he uses the lighthouse is the main focus point in this image, due to the light in the lighthouse being In one third of the picture but it is inside the sweet spot, however your eye can be drawn to the horizon due to the hot sun and its warm colours. There is also a strong diagonal line from the bottom right of the image leading towards the sun, there also a leading line which follows the walls leading up to the lighthouse and the horizon too. the lighting in this image is good due to the sun setting and it is dramatic due to the pinks and purples from the sun set. He uses the rule of thirds really well as two thirds of the image is water but the focus point the lighthouse falls in the final third in the sweet spot. He uses a birds eye view to capture the whole landscape and by doing this you can understand the scale of the shot and how big it is, by doing this you get a wide range of depth of field from the foreground being all the rocks and the middle ground being the lighthouse and the background being the horizon.
context -why was it taken?because he is trying to show his work off so people can see what he has done
this image was took in Anglesey at a beach that is very nice is there a meaning behind this? I think that there
is no meaning behind it because it is just a nice image i think that there is not a meaning behind this .

Connection - The theme is landscapes and this is relevant to my theme as I am trying to capture a wide range of different landscapes, so this is why this image is relevant to my work. This work can link to my work by the way it has been taken at a birds eye view as you are able to capture a lot of a landscape in one image. the message I got from this photo is that if you follow the light it will guide you to the right path, the light being the lighthouse guiding boats at night to safety.
Comment - The strengths of this image is the depth of field being captured due to the birds eye view shot. I also like the use of the strong leading lines from the bottom right corner leading to the sunset in the top left corner. He also captured the horizon very well with the strong colours within this. The weakness of this image is that you can not really see the detail on the lighthouse building and I would like to see this. This has inspired me to try and capture the natural beauty of buildings and the environment they are in.
Chosen photographer; Alexy Koma
Composition;
My chosen photographer is Alexy Koma. My eye is drawn to the water because it has textures that have dark blue and then fade out into white. The green hills surround the sea which also gives incredible color contrast because green and blue are 2 very different colors, and together they stand out. Towards the far background we see the hills going down but not completly because, we can't see what's behind them and that's where my eye drifts of to. The light is very well illuminated and everything is vibrant to the eye.
Anglesey - In the winter I went to Anglesey to capture the soft Winter light, as this will give me a wide variety of images that I am able to capture. Due to this soft lighting it allows me to capture the atmosphere of a winter day and the effects it has on an image that you capture. Whilst in Anglesey I hope to take many scenic images to help capture the natural beauty of this place, so that I am able to show people this natural beauty through the lens of my camera.
Best and Worst image
This picture is the best because I have focused on the lighthouse by using the rule of thirds I have positioned the light house on the sweet spot making the eye be drawn to the light house .
|
In this picture I have captured someones hair when I was taking the photograph of the lighthouse making the image my worse.
|
I have took this picture and my main focused was on the sea because I wanted to capture the waves. I have used a large depth of field by doing this I have caught the silhouette of the mountains in the background.
|
This picture I have took is of the sea I did not realize that I have caught people in the image this is why I have chosen this as my worst image.

Sand
Relaxing water
Relaxing waves
I have took this picture and my main focused was on the sea because I wanted to capture the waves. I have used a large depth of field by doing this it allowed me to capture multiple waves and the hilltops in the background.
|
This Picture is my worse image due to the focus not being right. In the picture you can see how blurry it is.
|
Hilltop House
Seaweed
I set out to capture the wide range of colours and the different textures that the rocks have, and in doing this I was able to capture this.
|
This picture is my worse image as i did not capture the true objective i set out to capture when taking the picture. As the lighting is not to the highest standard.
|
Rocks
Jellyfish
Flowers
Sky
Old trees
I feel this is my best image as it capture the natural light of the winter day and it also contrast with the dark light from the woods and in doing this it gives a very clean image.
|
I feel that this is my worse image as this image is too dark and you are not able to see the natural lighting of the image.

One of our projects was to go to Anglesey and in the winter time to capture pictures using different
tone and light whilst capturing our photos. During the winter months the light tends to be much
harsher compared to the summer months. When taking the photographs in Anglesey we had to
focus to get different range of light in our images. Whilst in Anglesey we visited a wide range of
places such as: Cathedrals, Churches, Beaches and Clifftops, by doing this it allowed us to have a
greater range of photographs in our portfolio. Overall I feel that the work that I produced in this
project came out to a high level.
Our next trip was to Manchester City centre and to Salford Quays, this is a completely different
contrast, due to the weather being much warmer and this caused the lighting in the pictures to
change and come out much brighter. There was a major difference in the two projects that was
created as we had much softer and rural bank of images, whereas on the other project we had a
much more urban and hectic set of images. Some of the places that we went to visit in Manchester
city centre and Salford Quays was the museums, cathedrals and hi rise buildings and urban areas, by
doing this it allowed us to capture the natural beauty of this city, it also allowed us to have a
completely different project to the Anglesey one.
There were similarities between both projects which include the use of camera settings throughout
the projects. Most of the time I had my camera set on manual allowing me to have much more
control of the pictures I was capturing, rather than having it on automatic, as this would have
restricted my use of the camera I was using. I was also checking my aperture in both locations as I
needed to make sure that enough light was being used to get the correct exposure.
Overall I preferred capturing my photographs in Anglesey this is down to me feeling much more
relaxed, due the environment I was in as in Manchester it was really busy and people constantly
walking past me whilst I was trying to capture my photos, so this made it much more difficult.
However in Manchester I was able to capture a wide range of photographs which helped massively
towards the completion of my project.

Manchester
Deansgate
Bridges
Castlefield locks
This is my worst image due to the lighting being to harsh in this image and by doing this it has made parts of the image hard to see.
|
This is my best image, as I captured the water hitting off specific parts of the gate which created a nice effect on the work and the focus was good in this image too.
|
Reflection
Gallery
This is my best image as the focus in the image was of a high level and the buildings in the background are clear and you can also see the buildings reflection of the glass work on the table.
|
This is my worst image as i captured to many people's heads in the shot, which has covered parts of the building I was trying to capture and the buildings in the background were blurry.

Stephanie Jung
I have chosen the theme which is by the artist Stephanie Jung. I want to show how I layer a photo from my Manchester pictures. I have chosen, this theme because I like the way it looks, I like how Stephanie Jung has layered the photos on top of each other making the photo abstract, it is no longer clear it looks blurred but it creates the feeling of how busy everyday life is through this image.
Experimental Photoshop
I like how Stephanie Jung has layered the photos on top of each other making the photo abstract, so this is why i have used the technique of layering and experimented with this.
Final image
This is a good starting point, however i need to focus on buildings as this will fit in with my theme of landscapes.

My project theme is on layering that the first theme i did but i though that that was not good because i did not like it because i did not like the layering because its was looking scruffy and did not stand out with my other work so i do not like layering and i dont enjoy like doing it
I like the project that i am doing know because i think that i am doing good with this project because i like doing it on Photoshop and I am interested In this project because in i like cutting out the thing so that shows that I am interested in doing this project and that like it i think that i am good at what i am doing this is getting a picture then getting a other picture out so u can see what is behind I
I have experienced a lot more tools in this project I have used bear of them when I am don I try to change the color of the picture to make it look nice and stand out with my other work that I do because some times I will just change the color to black and white I would like to develop to this this project in the further so I no what I have done so I can learn and what other tools to use when i am working on this project again
I have used the photograph Stephanie Jung I used to do layering but as told u I don't like that i like doing so I did a different other layering that looks much nicer because there layering was looking good and that's how they influence me to do layering but then like I said I changed the layering by changing the way of it I didn't do it like her i change it and did a other way by cutting it out so u could see what is behind it
I did the most I could do and I learned how to layer and from there I did it and keep on doing it then turned it into a better picture
